DataExact is a set of file tools — Excel, Word, PDF and Google Sheets utilities — that mostly run on files you upload and hand straight back. This page covers the two things that touch you rather than your files: cookies, and the small amount of usage data we keep.

The banner offers three choices: Accept turns Google Analytics on; Essential only and Reject both mean only the cookies above the analytics row are used. You can change your mind at any time with the "Cookie settings" link that stays at the bottom-left of every page, or the button above.
If you've accepted analytics cookies, we log a row per meaningful step — upload, processing complete, download — tagged with your anonymous session id and, if you're signed in, your account. That row holds the tool name, the step, the file size in bytes, and whether it succeeded. It does not hold the contents of your file, its filename, or anything you typed into it. If you haven't accepted, none of this is recorded — the free-file allowance itself is tracked separately (against your IP address, not a cookie) and works either way.
Uploaded files and the documents we generate from them are deleted automatically after one hour (Qualitative Coding corpora, which you build up over more than one session, last longer — noted on that tool's page). We don't read, retain or share what's inside them.
Password Protect Excel handles a password only in memory, for as long as it takes to encrypt, decrypt, or email a reminder. No table in our database stores a password.
Some features only run when you use them, and only then talk to the relevant provider: signing in uses whichever OAuth provider you pick, subscribing uses Stripe, and an emailed sign-in link is sent through our email provider. None of these fire unless you take that action.
