Make one document look like another

Match Format takes a document that already has the look you want — a client deliverable, last quarter's report, a colleague's template — and copies its style onto a plain document, without you opening a style dialog or re-typing a single font name. It reads the reference's heading and body fonts, its accent colour, its header and footer, its logo and its page margins, then reapplies all of it through the same restyling engine behind Format Report.

How it works

1. Upload the reference — the document that already looks right.
2. Upload the target — the document you want reformatted.
3. Check the extraction preview. It shows exactly what was detected, including anything it couldn't be confident about.
4. Adjust anything that doesn't look right, if you want to.
5. Download the matched .docx.

It restyles styles, not text

Like Format Report, this redefines the target document's own style objects — Normal, Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3 and Title — rather than reformatting paragraphs one at a time. Every paragraph in the target already using those styles picks up the new look automatically. Text formatted by hand instead of through a proper heading style has nothing to restyle, and is left exactly as it was.

Reading a style is a heuristic, and it says so

A document made in Word with real Heading styles gives a clean, high-confidence read. A document built by hand — text made to look like a heading by selecting it and clicking bold — still works, but the fonts come from the largest bold text instead, and the accent colour comes from the most common coloured text rather than a defined theme colour. Every time a detail like this is a best guess rather than a certainty, it's listed plainly in the extraction preview before you generate anything.

Common questions

Which file types can I upload?

.docx only, for both the reference and the target. The older .doc format isn't supported — open it in Word and save it as .docx first.

What if the reference doesn't use real heading styles?

It still works. The extraction preview will say plainly that fonts were detected from bold text rather than a heading style, and the result is generated from whatever was confidently detected — nothing blocks generation on an imperfect read.

What if I upload the same file as both reference and target?

That's fine — it comes back with its own formatting refreshed rather than failing as an error.

How is this different from Format Report?

Format Report applies one of three fixed brand themes. Match Format skips picking a theme and instead reads one from a document you already have — useful when the look you want already exists somewhere, rather than being one of three presets.

What happens to my files?
